WHY SaaS METRICS STANDARDS?

THE PROBLEM

Metrics are key to measuring and highlighting the performance of a SaaS company.

Although most SaaS companies use similar metrics, the ability to consistently measure and then compare internal metrics against external benchmarks is difficult due to the
lack of an industry standard definition and formula.

THE ROLE OF STANDARDS

Common industry standard bodies include the IAB (Internet Advertising Bureau) for Digital Advertising, World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for internet standards and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) for many product standards including how businesses exchange documents digitally exist. No such body exists for the SaaS industry..until now.

THE SOLUTION

The SaaS Metrics Standards Board has a vision to enable the SaaS Industry to have common metrics definition and calculation formulas that provide a standard framework and guidelines for the calculation, interpretation and use of SaaS metrics.

The SaaS Metrics Standards Board was founded by a group of like minded SaaS industry operators found comparing metrics across companies and using benchmarks to inform decision-making was difficult due to the lack of standard calculation methods and formulas used across the industry.

The five founding members came together based upon a shared belief that the inconsistency of SaaS metrics calculation methods and formulas was creating as much confusion and questions, as there was value in having common metrics that the majority of SaaS investors and executives used to inform decision making.

NOMINATE A METRIC

The SaaS Metrics Standards Board encourages everyone across the industry to nominate metrics that they believe should have a standard definition.  The ultimate goal is to allow the industry to own and manage metrics definitions and guidelines under the advisory of the SaaS Metrics Standards Board and Advisory Council.

In each metric nomination, please provide the detailed reasons for the metric being considered for standardization, including the utilization and the value of the metric to SaaS operators and/or investors.

Every metric nominated will be reviewed and considered by the SaaS Metrics Standards Board Steering Committee.
